Howard's art teacher, Mr. Daniel Zwicker, has been teaching in the Howard-Suamico School District K-4 art program since 2004. He received his Wisconsin art education certification from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay '03, his MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison '94, and his BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point '91. His focus and goals have been in implementing and maintaining Discipline Based Art Education along with CCSS and 21st Century Skills. He feels that if he can insert an interest and passion for the arts to children at such an early stage these learned behaviors will follow the child throughout their lives in the form of creative problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, knowledge of art history, nature, and the aesthetic.
Mr. Zwicker's other job related areas have been as a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley in modern art history and associate lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in water color media. He has also taught at the Renaissance School for the Arts, a charter school, within the Appleton Area School District in painting and drawing. In addition he had the opportunity of being a National Park Ranger at Yosemite National Park, CA; Minute Man National Historic Site, MA; and Pipestone National Monument, MN. He found himself immersed in history and the natural environment which surfaces throughout his art and teachings. Also important were his academic studies abroad at Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland; Soochow University, Taipei, Taiwan; and attending a semester program in Athens, Greece along with academic tours to other countries such as Turkey, China, Korea, and throughout Central Europe. Learning about art and its place in different geographic locations and cultures has allowed him to pass these experiences on to students in his classroom.
His hobbies include researching vintage American Indian Art and artifacts as well as collecting art. He loves canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and camping on the lakes of Northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and Canada. He has guided and participated in numerous wilderness canoe trips into Canada with high-school students through Kaukauna High School. In addition he has tracked gray wolves in Northern Wisconsin as a volunteer carnivore tracker for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. He and his family enjoy visiting museums as well as travel and connecting with people and places throughout the world.
Mr. Zwicker also teaches art at Meadowbrook Elementary within the Howard-Suamico School District, his home school.
He and his wife have two daughters and currently reside in Appleton, Wisconsin.
